Importance of yoga in daily life highlighted in Patiala

Patiala, June 21

Over 800 participants, including NCOE athletes, national campers, coaches, diploma trainees and administrative staff, celebrated 8th International Day of Yoga at the Sports Authority of India, National Institute of Sports, here today.

Col Raj Singh Bishnoi, Senior Executive Director of the NIS, stressed upon the importance of yoga not only for athletes but also for staff members. Meanwhile, Punjabi University also celebrated International Day of Yoga with enthusiasm here today.

Students of the university’s Government Model School gathered outside Guru Teg Bahadur Hall and performed yoga. They were led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Arvind, kabbadi player and Ghanour MLA Gurlal Singh, Group Captain Rajesh Sharma and Olympian Bahadur Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Arvind said everyone, especially students, should adopt yoga in their daily routine to live a healthy and long life.

He thanked the Department of Physical Education for its support in organising the event. School Principal Balwinder Kaur, ANO Satvir Singh and other teachers also participated in the event.
