Health Department goes all out to check dengue in Patiala

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the District Health Department is playing a proactive role in controlling dengue.

The department has already intensified its anti-dengue activities to curb the spread of the disease and issued notices to persons in whose houses dengue larvae were found. Till now, 49 house owners have been issued notices. However, the fresh spell of rainfall over the past 48 hours has aggravated the possibility of dengue outbreak in the district.

Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said over 90,000 houses had already been surveyed during the ‘Friday Dry Day’ drives to check dengue larvae.

“If dengue larvae are found again at these houses, we will issue challans to owners as per the Act. We will not tolerate any negligence,” he said.

Malhotra said all possible efforts were being made by the teams of the Health Department to prevent the spread of coronavirus as well as dengue and chikungunya in the district. Special efforts were being made to check high-risk areas, which were hit hard by dengue.

Health teams, supervised by District Epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh, along with Dr Yuvraj Narang and sanitary inspector Sanjiv Sharma, have been spraying larvicides in stagnant water and drains.

District Epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh said broken utensils on the rooftops should be discarded or destroyed to avoid stagnation of rainwater, which might allow dengue larvae to breed. Coolers, fridge trays and utensils to feed water to birds should be emptied and dried once a week, he said.
