Patiala, February 19

The three professors of Government Mohindra College, who had, last year, complained against their colleagues regarding misappropriation of funds, have raised questions over the ongoing Vigilance inquiry against the suspects.

The professors, alleging lack of professionalism in the inquiry, have already written to the Principal Secretary (Higher Education), the Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), the Director Public Instructions and the college Principal. They (complainants) have demanded a fair probe into the alleged financial irregularities.

The three professors had, last year, complained of misappropriation of funds of RUSA, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the Higher Education Institute Society, a self-finance society of the college.

The professors, Amarinder Singh Tiwana, Mandeep Singh and Jashandeep, had filed a complaint to the Vigilance against the then principal and two professors. An inquiry was initiated by the Vigilance against the suspects this year.

The complainants have claimed that the suspects are in the possession of crucial documents — pertaining to the inquiry — and, therefore, they should immediately be removed from their positions before they “tamper” with the documents. Or the inquiry agency should take the documents in its possession without any delay.

Questioning the procedural lacunae, Mandeep Singh, one of the three professors who had filed the complaint, said how could the suspects be in the possession of crucial documents once a complaint had been filed against them. One of the suspects is himself said to have submitted documents to the inquiry agency, which is against the rules, said Mandeep.

“A former college principal (one of the suspects) is still in possession of some official documents even six months after her retirement,” claimed Mandeep.

Another complainant, Prof Amarinder Singh Tiwana, said, “Two suspects are still holding the charge. They should immediately be transferred from the college.”

The college principal, Dr Simrat Kaur, said, “The records which were sought by the investigation agency were in the possession of the clerical staff only. Due process is being followed in maintaining the records.”
