Delivery of goods on the doorstep draws mixed response

In the wake of curfew, the home delivery services were found to be in a disarray on first day — after residents resorted to panic buying.

As soon as Patiala Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Amit flashed the list of grocery, and chemist shops of the respective areas, in the district, the services were hit by huge rush of orders by the residents.

On the first day itself, barring few, majority of the shopkeepers could not be contacted until afternoon— despite repeated attempts.

In the meanwhile, the shopkeepers said they were receiving hundreds of calls per hour as people were, seemingly, in a panic. One of the shopkeepers said, “Huge rush of orders is creating glitches. People are resorting to panic buying. Shoppers need not panic because there is no paucity of essentials. We — along with administration — are trying our best. People are giving huge orders which is not sensible in current times.”

A resident at Lower Mall road, said, “I am trying to contact the number of a department store at YPS road, however, the number remained engaged throughout.
