A large number of Congress workers led by former MLA Kuljit Nagra today took out a tractor march from New Grain Market, Sirhind, in support of protesting farmers. The march passed through the bazaars of Sirhind and many villages and concluded at Fatehgarh Sahib.
Addressing the workers, former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra said after the farmers’ movement in 2021, the Central Government had promised the farmers that, along with repealing the agricultural laws, the minimum support price (MSP) for all crops would be ensured, adding that it would also make a law to give them legal rights in this regard.
He said despite two years having been passed, no change had taken place on the ground, due to which the farmers were forced to march Delhi again to get their demands met.
He said it was unfortunate that the Haryana Government and police were using unprecedented force against the farmers marching to the capital.
He said Shubhkaran Singh, a young farmer, was shot dead by the Haryana Police while many other farmers had been martyred since the agitation started.
Hundreds of people were injured in the firing while the police forcibly abducted some farmers and tortured another young farmer, Pritpal Singh, whose legs, arms and jaws were broken. He said it was a violation of human rights.
He demanded a murder case be registered against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Anil Vij.
He said the Punjab Government had maintained complete silence over the matter.
The Punjab Government should intervene in the matter and give the farmers their rights. He said if the farmers’ demands were not met by the BJP government in the near future, the Congress would hold massive protests across the country.
Dera Bassi: To show solidarity with the ongoing farmers' movement on the Punjab-Haryana border, the Punjab Congress took out tractor rallies across the state today.
A tractor rally was organised under the leadership of Congress constituency incharge Deepinder Singh Dhillon and his son Udaivir Singh Dhillon in the Dera Bassi constituency.
Around a hundred tractors were involved in the rally. — TNS
