Bankers seek wage revision, hold protest

As a part of an agitation against pending wage revision, members of the local unit of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), gathered outside the SBI, LCPC office, at Urban Estate to protest against Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the Central Government. The protesters were demanding early and adequate wage increase. More than 400 officers and employees from different banks took part in the protest demonstration today.

Rajiv Sirhindi, convener, UFBU Patiala, strongly criticised the attitude of the IBA and the Central Government for their lackluster attitude towards demands of bank employees during protest.

Bankers were demanding wage revision, settlement at 20 per cent hike on payslip components with adequate loading thereof, five days banking system, merger of special allowance with basic pay, scrapping of the New Pension Scheme (NPS), updation of pension, improvement in family pension, allocation to staff welfare fund based on operating profits of banks and exemption from income tax on retiral benefits without ceiling.

Public Sector Banks and scheduled private banks would go on a two-day strike on January 31 and February 1, said Sirhindi.
