Patiala, August 3

The district today reported one death due to Covid and 33 fresh cases, taking the active case count to 209.

Health officials said a 73-year-old man from Patiala city, who was admitted to a private hospital two days ago, succumbed to the virus on Wednesday. The district Covid toll has risen to 1,715.

The officials said the patient had comorbidities and received only one dose of the anti-Covid vaccine.

Among the new cases, 26 surfaced in Patiala city only. Rajpura reported three cases, Shutrana two and Nabha and Kauli blocks saw a case each.

District epidemiologist Sumeet Singh said the district had been reporting a high number of cases since July. “A majority of fresh cases are scattered. So far, there has been no clustering of cases,” he added. “People with Covid symptoms should get themselves tested at the earliest,” he said.

Civil Surgeon Raju Dhir said people should not take coronavirus lightly and adopt Covid-appropriate behaviour to avoid further surge in cases in the district. He said, “Apart from this, eligible beneficiaries should get themselves vaccinated with the precautionary dose.”
