Patiala, January 22

The police today claimed to have solved the blind murder of a 70-year-old woman with the arrest of her daughter-in-law.

The police said the suspect, Nirmal Kaur, allegedly killed her mother-in-law, Surjit Kaur, on January 17 by assaulting her with a wooden paddle over a family dispute. The police said the suspect had a scuffle with her mother-in-law before she allegedly attacked and killed her.

The police said that the suspect had concocted a story that she was not at home when her mother-in-law was murdered. She also stole some cash and scattered clothes in the room to create a scene of robbery so as to make believe that the murder was committed for the loot.

The police claimed that the suspect had confessed to the crime. She was questioned following sufficient evidence was found against her. The police said they had recovered the wooden paddle used in the crime.
