1.93L kids administered drops during 3-day drive

  • Polio drops were given at 918 booths and 33 transit points which were set up across the district.

As part of the three-day national polio eradication campaign, 1.93 lakh children between 0-5 years were administered polio vaccine during the three-day drive here.

Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said they were successful in giving polio drops to as many as 1.93 lakh children during the campaign which concluded here today. The Health Department had set a target of giving polio drops to 1.91 lakh children under five years of age.

Dr Malhotra said they were successful in covering around 60 per cent of the targeted population on the first day itself. Polio drops were given at 918 booths and 33 transit points which had already been set up across the district, he added.

While in the last two days, with the help of 27 mobile teams and 189 supervisors, the Health Department covered the remaining children living in slums, marriage palaces, brick kilns, shelters, and newly constructed buildings.

Crediting the success of the campaign to his staff, Malhotra said apart from officials of the Health Department, volunteers from Mata Kaushalya Nursing School, NCC students, Ashoka Nursing College students, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, social service institutes, Panchayat bodies and various departments also played a vital role to make the campaign successful.
