Notification issued for Delhi poll; five nominations filed

With the Election Commission today issuing a notification for Delhi Assembly polls for 70 seats, scheduled for February 8, the nomination process began today, as five of the contestants filed their papers.

Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly promises to be a triangular contest with the AAP hoping to retain power on the plank of development and the BJP and the Congress determined to put

up a spirited challenge.

“The notification for the Delhi election was today issued by poll authorities. Nominations have begun for the polls,” a senior official said. The counting

of votes will be taken up on February 11. “The nomination process started from today at the offices of returning officers of 70 Assembly constituencies. It began at 11 am and will end at 3 pm,” a senior EC official said.

The last date to file nomination is January 21, the scrutiny will take place on January 22 while the last date of withdrawal of candidature will be January 24. Over 1.46 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Delhi elections, according to the final electoral roll.

Among the five nominations filed today included one each in Burari and Matiala.


AAP announces candidates, 24 new faces

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced its list of 70 candidates for the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls, with CM Arvind Kejriwal contesting again from the New Delhi seat and his deputy Manish Sisodia from the Patparganj seat. The party has dropped 15 sitting MLAs and given ticket to a total of 24 new faces, including Atishi, Dilip Pandey and Raghav Chadha, who unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. PTI
