Bathinda: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) conducted an eye check-up camp in collaboration with Gupta Hospital at the Lehra Bega toll plaza in the district. Drivers on the highway were checked by Dr Parul Gupta and her team. They were also given medicines and glasses. Dr Gupta said: “Around 70 persons were checked and were advised timely follow up check-up.” Drivers were also made aware about various eye diseases. Dr Gupta added: “The ability of cataract surgery to restore sight is well known and a new study suggests that it can make people 48% safer on road. Cataracts occur gradually as a clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy and surgery replaces the cloudy lens with an artificial lens,” she said. TNS
