Chandigarh, March 21

After making headlines over his controversial "ripped jeans" comment, the new Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Tirath Singh Rawat, is back with another -- this time blaming the US for "200 years of rule in India".

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Sunday in a faux pas said that America enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world but was struggling with COVID-19 whereas India was doing much better.

“As opposed to other countries, India is doing better in terms of handling COVID-19 crisis. America, who enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world, is struggling in current times,” Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said.

He added if someone other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi was at helm the situation would have been dire.

Rawat added that PM Modi saved everyone, "but we didn't follow his instructions. Wearing masks, sanitising, washing hands and social distancing -- only some people followed."
