Tax evasion: Notice to 3 Chinese mobile firms

The government is looking into cases of tax evasion by three mobile companies of China and notices have been served on them, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday while replying to a question by BJP's Sushil Kumar Modi. Answering a supplementary question during the Question Hour, the minister said the three companies were Oppo, Vivo India and Xiaomi. TNS

81 Chinese nationals given ‘leave India’ notice

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that 81 Chinese nationals were given "leave India" notices and 117 others from the neighbouring country were deported for violating visa norms and for other illegal acts between 2019 and 202. Replying to a written question in the House, the minister also said 726 Chinese nationals were placed in the "adverse list" for violating visa conditions and other illegal acts. TNS

No foodgrain crisis in India, says Tomar

The government on Tuesday assured Parliament that there was no foodgrain crisis in the country. "There is no food grain crisis in the country. Due to the concerted efforts of the central and state governments, and farmers, the production of foodgrain has increased from 285.01 million tonnes in 2017-18 to 314.51 million tonnes in 2021-22, which is an all-time record," Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said. tns

No plan to bring census into concurrent list

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday cleared the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021 — one of the few Bills sent to a standing committee for discussion, amendments and scrutiny — with Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav asserting it would put India at the forefront of wildlife conservation and save the ecosystems of the world.
