Smriti Irani gets additional charge of minority affairs ministry, Scindia assigned steel ministry

President accepts resignations of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and RCP Singh from the Union Council of Ministers

President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday accepted the resignations of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ram Chandra Prasad Singh from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect and assigned their portfolios of minority affairs and steel to Smriti Irani and Jyotiraditya Scindia, respectively.

A President House communique said, "The President, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignations of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ram Chandra Prasad Singh from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution."

The communique added that as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani, be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs in addition to her existing portfolio.

"Furthermore, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Jyotiraditya M. Scindia be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Steel, in addition to his existing portfolio," the Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said.

The Rajya Sabha terms of Naqvi and Singh ended today.
