Pune: Noted filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was on Tuesday appointed president of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairman of the institute's governing council, an official said. PYC chief held for burning tractor
New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) president Brinder Dhillon and three others in connection with the tractor-burning incident near India Gate on Monday. The police said six PYC activists were held on Monday. The arrested include Harish Panwar and Abraham Roy Mani, National General Secretaries of All India Youth Congress, and Buntry Shelke, Secretary, AIYC incharge of PYC. — TNS
Tibetans hail Chinese spy’s conviction
New Delhi: Tibetans in exile here have welcomed a Swedish court’s decision to deport a Chinese-Tibetan after he had completed a sentence for spying on Tibetans in Sweden for the Chinese intelligence. Dorjee Gyantsan (52) was convicted of “illegal intelligence activity” after he was found to have met Chinese intelligence officers as part of an operation to spy on Tibetans in Sweden. — TNS
