New Delhi, October 14

On the eve of Bihar polls starting October 28, the daughter of former NDA convenor Sharad Yadav today joined the Congress hailing the leadership of Gandhis and promising to strengthen the “social revolution her father started in Bihar.”

Subhashini Yadav joined the Congress in the presence of state leaders — Bihar Congress chief Madan Mohan Jha, AICC secretary Bihar Devendra Yadav and party spokesman Pawan Khera.

Yadav described Subhashini as a social activist working on child welfare and an inheritor of “Sharad Yadav’s spotless legacy.”

Khera earlier spoke of Sharad Yadav taking a stand against communal forces by launching Sanjhi Virasat campaign for harmony and said the entry of his daughter would boost the grand alliance in the state.

Subhashini Yadav joined along with former LJP leader Kali Pandey who won the 1984 Gopalganj Lok sabha election with a heavy margin and went on to support late PM Rajiv Gandhi.

Both Subhashini Yadav and Pandey are expected to be fielded by Congress in the upcoming polls.

Subhashini’s political legacy remains strong as her father is a seven time ex Lok Sabha MP and a four time Rajya Sabha member.

Sharad Yadav who was expelled from Janata Dal United for anti party activities went on to form his own Loktantrik Janata Dal.

Subhashini today said her father was ailing and could not be active in this year’s state polls.

“It is my moral duty to take forward my father’s values and I was inspired to join politics by Congress veteran Ahmed Patel to whom I am thankful,” she said.

Congress is contesting 70 segments out of 243 in an arrangement with the RJD in the state.
