SC refuses to entertain petition for dismissal of Maharashtra govt

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a petition seeking dismissal of the Uddhav Thackeray Government in Maharashtra and imposition of President’s Rule in the state.

“As a petitioner, you are at liberty to approach the President, but do not come here,” A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde told petitioner Vikram Gehlot who had sought dismissal of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government alleging that the affairs of the state were not being carried out in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions.

“Do you know how big Maharashtra is?” the Bench asked the petitioner and said it can’t entertain such a petition.

The petitioner gave the examples of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and demolition of actress Kangana Ranaut’s property to drive home his point. But the court wasn’t convinced at all.

“How can it be said that the Constitution is not being followed in the state because of some incidents?” it asked.
