SC proposes retired judge for probe into Hyderabad encounter

The Supreme Court on Wednesday proposed to appoint a retired judge of the top court to conduct an independent probe into the alleged fake encounter of four men accused of raping and murdering a woman in Hyderabad.

A Bench headed by CJI SA Bobde asked the Telangana government and others to suggest a former judge's name and posted the matter for further hearing on Thursday.

The four men arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a woman veterinarian were killed in an encounter with the police last Friday. The police had said that the accused had snatched weapons from the police, fired at them and tried to escape. Officials maintained that the accussed were killed in retaliatory firing by the police.
