RSS gen secy attacks Church on conversions

Show comments

Panaji, February 9

Even as the Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao, urged the Union Government to “immediately and unconditionally” revoke the “divisive and discriminatory” Citizenship (Amendment) Act and stop quashing the “right to dissent”, RSS general secretary Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi today attacked the Church.

He accused the Church of converting people to Christianity by taking advantage of their “ignorance and poverty”. He said forcible religious conversion should be considered a criminal offence.

Goa BJP’s general secretary Narendra Sawaikar asked why the Archbishop was opposing the CAA when “crores of people, including Goans,” were supporting the new legislation

The CAA, NRC and NPR were “divisive and discriminatory” and would certainly have a “damaging effect” on India’s multi-cultural democracy, the Church argued. — PTI
