New Delhi, December 11

The Supreme Court on Wednesday proposed to appoint a former Judge of the court to probe into the killing of four men accused of raping and murdering a veterinarian in Hyderabad by Telangana Police in an alleged fake encounter.

“We propose to appoint a former Supreme Court Judge to inquire into it,” a three-Judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said.

Noting that it was conscious that the Telangana High Court had taken note of the matter, the Bench said it wanted the Judge who would inquire into the matter should be Delhi-based.

Asking the Telangana Government and the petitioners to suggest a name of Delhi-based former Judge of the top court, the Bench posted the matter for further hearing on Thursday. On behalf of Telangana Government, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi said the police followed the directions laid down by the Supreme Court for an enquiry into encounters and had already referred the case to the state CID.

The Bench is seized of two PILs—one by advocates GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar Yadav and the other by advocate ML Sharma. —TNS
