New Delhi, December 2

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till noon by Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu after Opposition members started protesting inside the House demanding revocation of the suspension of 12 Opposition members.

The 12 Opposition members – six from Congress, two from Trinamool Congress, two from Shiv Sena and one each from CPI(M) and CPI – were suspended on Monday for the rest of the Winter Session for their conduct in the last session.

On Thurday, after the customary laying of the papers by members, Naidu read out a statement on the suspension issue. Naidu said this was not the first time that members were suspended. Between 1962 and 2010, members were suspended on 11 occasions, he said.

The Chairman also added that while Opposition MPs were protesting against the suspension of their fellow MPs, they were not at all concerned about what the 12 members did in the House because of which they were suspended.

As the noisy protest by the Opposition MPs continued, the Chairman adjourned the House till noon.
