BJP will launch a national campaign to demand Rahul’s apology: Ravi Shankar Prasad on Congress leader’s remarks in UK

The BJP on Thursday hit back at Rahul Gandhi demanding his public apology and noting that the Congress MP in his remarks today did not deny what he said about the Indian democracy in the UK.

“Rahul Gandhi who was in the UK since March 6 has returned to India today. He said many things but did not deny his remarks insulting the Indian democracy abroad. Not did he express regret. How long will he mislead the nation? How did he become Wayanad MP if not on account of democracy? How did Congress win the Himachal election if not due to democracy? If he wins it is okay. But if he loses elections, he will defame democracy. What can we do if people don’t vote for him,” Prasad said adding that the BJP will launch a national campaign to demand Rahul’s apology.   

Prasad also rejected Gandhi’s insistence on speaking in Lok Sabha first.

“Did Rahul Gandhi make his remarks insulting Indian democracy in the Indian Parliament? No. He made these remarks in England. So he must apologize to the people first. It has become his habit to defame India, Indians and national sentiments abroad,” the BJP veteran said.

He also rejected Congress comparisons between then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s comments about the erstwhile UPA government and Gandhi’s remarks in London.

“This comparison is misplaced. Narendra Modi was exposing rank corruption of UPA,” said Prasad.

He asked Rahul Gandhi to read appreciations of the Indian foreign policy by the Australian PM, Italian PM and the German Chancellor who visited here recently.

“We also want to ask Rahul what is his sense of deep attachment with China? He praised Chinese foreign policy as harmonious when there’s a sense of uncertainty about Chinese aggression worldwide,” the BJP leader said.

He said Rahul Gandhi’s knowledge of Indian foreign policy needs a debate.

“The question is also not Rahul Gandhi’s homework. The question is about his urge to defame India,” the BJP leader added.
