Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the official celebrations to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence from Gujarat on March 12, the Dandi March anniversary this year.

The government today sent out a detailed note to state chief secretaries and all its departments on readiness to mark the mega event.

The celebrations titled “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” will commence 75 weeks prior to Independence Day 2022 and extend up to Independence Day 2023.

“The launch of the celebration will be a 25 day event starting on March 12, 2021, the anniversary of the launch of Dandi March and will conclude on April 5, 2021, the day Dandi March concluded. The Prime Minister will launch the opening ceremony on March 12 from Gujarat,” says the note shared by the Centre.

Nationally, the event will be celebrated at 75 places of historical importance – two to three places per state.

“The states will decide these sites and plan events with active participation of the NCC and other volunteer clubs,” the note said. Much of the yearlong celebrations are planned in educational institutions with schools, colleges and universities to organise conferences and symposia on Indian freedom struggle starting March 12.

“Exhibitions on Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will be organised by the government’s outreach wing at various locations.
