New Delhi, May 18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government was working to expand Covid vaccine supply on a very large scale and stressed the need for Covid containment in rural and inaccessible areas.

“Efforts are being made to increase the supply of Covid vaccines on a very large scale,” the PM said addressing district magistrates and municipal commissioners in virtual mode today.

He announced plans to rapidly to install oxygen plants in hospitals in every district through PM CARES Fund. Such plants had already started functioning in many hospitals, he claimed.

Describing district officers as field commanders in the Covid war, he said local containment, aggressive testing and complete information were weapons against the virus.

“We need to be more vigilant in the face of decreasing infections. The focus should be on rural and inaccessible areas,” he said.

“Attempts are being made to give a schedule for the next 15 days to the states in advance,” the PM said calling for zero vaccine wastage and curbs on black marketing.
