10 teachers booked

MOHALI: Taking action for causing inconvenience, the local police today booked at least 10 teachers at Kharar. The teachers, belonging to the Sikhya Providers, EGS/STR/AIE and the IEV Teachers’ unions, today blocked the traffic in front of the Kharar bus stand on the National Highway 21 at 3 pm for the fulfilment of their respective demands.

Taking action for causing inconvenience, the local police today booked at least 10 teachers at Kharar.

The teachers, belonging to the Sikhya Providers, EGS/STR/AIE and the IEV Teachers’ unions, today blocked the traffic in front of the Kharar bus stand on the National Highway 21 at 3 pm for the fulfilment of their respective demands.

The police booked Ajmer Singh Aulakh, state president, Sikhya Providers Union, Kuldip Singh Boduwal, general secretary of the union, Davinder Singh Muktsar and Satinder Singh Kang, state president and general secretary of the EGS Teachers’ Union, respectively, Jaswant Singh Pannu and Beant Singh Patial, state president and general secretary of the IEV Teachers’ Union, Navdeep Singh, Shamsher Singh Mohali, Jasvir Singh Moha, Manjit Singh Ludhiana, Jasbir Singh Ferozepur, Gurpreet Singh Noordi, Hardip Singh Sarhala, all office-bearers of various teachers’ unions under Sections 283, 341 and 188 of the IPC and Sections 4B and 8 of the National Highway Authority Act at the Kharar police station, here.

Protesters, who were nearly 500 in number, sat on the road to block the traffic following which commuters were stranded and long queues of vehicles were witnessed on both sides of the main road. The local police had a tough time managing the situation.

The protesters protested for more than two hours, causing inconvenience to commuters. Meanwhile, senior police officers reached the spot to pacify them. The police managed to open the blockade after they got a meeting fixed between the protesting teachers and the state Chief Minister.
