New Delhi, October 15

The signs of Covid-19 slowdown in India firmed up further today with the case doubling time rising to 73 days as against 25.5 days in mid-August even as multiplexes, theatres and entertainment parks were opened as part of unlock 5.0 guidelines.

The Health Ministry attributed the improved case doubling time to progressive improvement in recoveries and a persistent decline in active cases.

“India has come a long way from registering a doubling rate of 25.5 days in mid-August to 72.8 days at present, which is nearly 73 days. This is the result of comprehensive testing, effective tracking, quick hospitalisation and effective adherence to Covid protocol,” the ministry said.

The case doubling time has been 26.3 days on August 16, 32.5 days on September 6 and 46.7 days on September 27. The new cases in the last 24 hours were 67,708 as against 81,514 fresh recoveries in trends that have held for long now.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reviewed research and vaccine deployment plan. He directed the health authorities to scale up sero-surveys and testing.
