NMC relief for final-year Ukraine returnees likely

Ahead of the June 29 deadline the SC has set for the government to finalise a scheme for Ukraine returnees, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is learnt to have proposed relief to final-year students and flexibility for others to complete their education in any foreign country.

The demand of 25,000 medical students to accommodate them in Indian colleges appears closed with the NMC learnt to have cited to the Health Ministry the lack of adequate infrastructure apart from \vast variation between the Indian and Ukraine curriculum. The NMC is learnt to have proposed that final-year MBBS students who have returned from Ukraine and China due to war exigencies or Covid-19 be allowed to complete their course online and take the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam in India for a licence. The recommendations may not hold too much promise for first and second-year student returnees.
