Nine more COVID-19 fatalities, 127 new patients reported in Rajasthan

COVID-19 has claimed nine more lives, raising the death toll in the state to 289 while the cumulative positive cases surged to 16,787 with 127 new confirmed cases reported in various parts of the state on Saturday morning.

Three patients each succumbed to the virus in Jaipur and Jodhpur, one each in Ajmer, Pali and a patient from another state, a medical bulletin stated here.

Of the total number of cases, Alwar reported 38 cases followed by Dholpur (30), Jaipur (13), Kota (12), Sikar (10), Ajmer (5), Udaipur (4), three each from Bikaner and Jhunjhunu, one each from Dausa, Dungarpur, Nagaur, Hanumangarh, Sawaimadhopur, and four patients from other states.

Confirmed cases in migrants have gone up to 4,796 since May 1. A total of 12,869 have been discharged, leaving the state with 3,249 active cases.

The breakup of the death toll is as follows: Jaipur 155, Jodhpur 41,  Bharatpur 31, Kota 22,  Ajmer 16, Bikaner 13, Nagaur 12, Pali 9, six each in Chittorgarh, Sawaimadhopur and Sikar, five each in Bhilwara, Sirohi and Alwar, four each in Baran, Karauli and Dholpur, three each in Udaipur, Dausa and Sriganganagar, two each in Jalore, Banswara, Barmer and Churu, one each in Rajsamand, Pratapgarh, Jhunjhunu and Tonk 1, and 24 deaths from hailing from neighbouring states are also included in the toll.  

Rapid Antigen Test soon

After taking a routine COVID review meeting on Friday night, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that the state government would soon start Rapid Antigen tests for detecting coronavirus quickly as per the guidelines of the ICMR.

Expressing his concern on the rising trend of positive cases and deaths due to COVID-19, Gehlot said it was necessary to do the test on the latest technology and on faster speed to minimise the cases.

Known as the Standard Q Covid19 Ag Kit, antigen detection test does not require any specialised machine. It can show results within 30 minutes and can be interpreted with a naked eye, according to the ICMR. The antigen test kit has been developed by a South Korean biotechnology firm SD Biosensor. Each kit will cost Rs450. The antigen test had been found to have a very high specificity with moderate sensitivity, ICMR quoted.
