New Delhi, June 20

A lawyer last week appeared in a virtual hearing dressed donning a t-shirt and lying in his bed, inviting Supreme Court’s ire. The incident took place last week.

“The court is of the view that when a counsel appears in virtual court hearings, they should be presentable and avoid showing images that are not appropriate and can only be tolerable in the privacy of their homes,” an SC Bench said in its order passed earlier this week.

The advocate tendered an unconditional apology to the top court, which was accepted by the latter. The top court advised him to follow “minimum court etiquette” in view of the public nature of hearings. “We are all passing through trying times and virtual hearings have become an order of the day. Yet minimum court etiquette in terms of what can be considered a decent dress, background etc. should be followed,” said the SC.
