Kazakhstan opens consulate in Hyderabad

Hyderabad now has an Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan. It was opened here on Wednesday by Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India Yerlan Alimbayev. Kazakhstan hopes to improve bilateral trade, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.  

Alimbayev told media persons that Kazakhstan was India’s main trade-economic partner in Central Asia and the trade between the two had reached a turnover of USD 2.4 billion in 2020.

This exceeds the total turnover with all other countries in the region and there is a huge potential to develop trade cooperation, he said.  

The Ambassador said Kazakhstan was the biggest uranium supplier to India and had supplied 9,000 tonnes so far and India sourced nearly 80 per cent of its uranium requirement from them.

He hoped that a new contract would be signed between the two countries once Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visits India sometime later this year. 

India and Kazakhstan would collaborate in fields of energy, nuclear industry, IT, transport and logistics, food and processing industry, pharmaceuticals, investment.  

Nawab Mir Nasir Ali Khan, Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, said the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan, established in Hyderabad, would work towards bridging and strengthening the people-to-people and business relationships between Kazakhstan and the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
