“The Finance Minister, speaking on the need for environmentally sustainable and financially viable alternatives of energy sources, said the International Solar Alliance can be an effective platform to catalyse efforts in this direction,” said the Finance Ministry in a tweet.

Sitharaman had arrived in Washington on Monday for the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The minister held talks with Financial Stability Board chair Klass Knot and vice-chairman of the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative (CFLI) Mary Schapiro.

The minister also held talks with IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva. With Schapiro, Sitharaman discussed the success in India with respect to building a robust renewable energy market and concurred that it was opportune time for India to play a leadership role in shaping global climate finance trends.
