New Delhi, January 9

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday had separate telephonic conversations with his counterparts in the US and Japan. He shared India’s concerns with the US over the developments in Iran.

Rajnath Singh tweeted that he has had a telephonic conversation with the US Secretary of Defence Dr Mark T. Esper. We expressed firm resolve to strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation. “He (Dr Esper) also briefed me about the recent developments in the Gulf Region,” Rajnath Singh said he shared India’s concerns and interests in the region.

Rajnath Singh also had a telephonic conversation with the Minister of Defence of Japan Taro Kono. The two Defence Ministers had exchanged views on regional security situation.

Japan, a key ally of the US, called for peace immediately after US and Iran did tit-for-tat bombings. While US killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, Iran retaliated by hitting at US bases in Iraq.

The two ministers discussed matters of enhancing bilateral security cooperation under the framework of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
