How is housing Tablighis an offence, asks Delhi High Court

Show comments

New Delhi, November 12

The Delhi HC on Friday questioned the Delhi Police what offence was committed by Indian nationals who housed foreigners attending the Tablighi Jamaat congregation midst the lockdown last year.

Justice Mukta Gupta, hearing a batch of petitions to quash the FIRs registered against the hosts, observed the Jamaat attendees had sought refuge before the lockdown in the wake of the pandemic and there were no allegations of they violating orders restricting movement.

“Suddenly when lockdown is imposed, where does one go? What is the offence committed?” the judge asked. — PTI
