New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday suspended the three-year jail term of former Union Minister Dilip Ray in a coal scam case pertaining to irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand block in 1999. The HC also issued a notice to the CBI and sought its response on Ray’s appeal challenging his conviction and sentence. PTI

ADR moves SC against electoral bonds scheme

New Delhi: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly poll, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has moved the Supreme Court seeking urgent hearing of its PIL challenging the electoral bonds scheme for funding political parties. “Right before the Bihar elections, the SBI, in the XIV Phase of sale, has been authorised to issue and encash electoral bonds through its 29 authorised branches with effect from October 19 to October 28, 2020,” the plea filed through advocate Prashant Bhushan stated. Tejpal case: SC extends trial completion deadline to Mar 31

New Delhi: The SC on Tuesday extended till March 31 next year the deadline for completion of trial in the rape case against Tehelka magazine founder Tarun Tejpal. The order came from a Bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, submitted that the trial judge had made a request for extension of time. TNS
