Govt withdraws reciprocal curbs, no forced quarantine for UK flyers

The government has withdrawn a travel advisory that added Covid-19 related additional checks and restrictions, including 10-day mandatory quarantine, on those arriving from the UK after the British government ordered discontinuation of mandatory testing and quarantine norms for those vaccinated with Covishield travelling from India.

The Health Ministry, in an order dated October 11, said based on the evolving scenario, revised guidelines with respect to the UK had been withdrawn and earlier guidelines on international arrival issued on February 17 would be applicable to all travellers arriving in India from the UK.

The relaxation came after British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis said last week that there would be no quarantine requirement for Indians travelling to the UK, who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine from October 11. India also withdrew the new UK advisory from October 11 in reciprocity.

Meanwhile, India is inching closer to the 100-crore vaccination mark soon. The government is expected to showcase the event in a big way. — TNS
