Giving Aadhaar No. optional for voters: Centre

The government on Thursday clarified in Parliament that it was optional for voters to furnish their Aadhaar number as part of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, as amended by the Registration of Electors Amendment Rules, 2022, and those who do not have an Aadhaar number can provide any other document listed in the rules.

“As per rule 26B of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 (as amended by the Registration of Electors (Amendment) Rules, 2022), every person may intimate his Aadhaar number to the registration officer in Form 6B. However, it is optional and he may produce his Aadhaar number and in case, if he is not having an Aadhaar, may provide other optional documents as provided in Form 6B,” Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said.
