Yoga, warm water, turmeric and golden milk are among top advised immunity boosters in the Covid-19 advisory issued by the Ministry of AYUSH today.

Titled “Ayurveda’s immunity boosting measures for self-care during Covid-19 crisis”, the advisory guides people to enhance body’s natural defence system to fight Covid-19.

“We recommend self-care guidelines for preventive health measures and boosting immunity with special reference to respiratory health. These are supported by Ayurvedic literature and scientific publications,” said the ministry recommending among general measures the use of warm water throughout the day; daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for half an hour; cooking with spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander and garlic.

For immunity boosting, the ministry asked people to take Chyavanprash 10 gm in the morning, warning diabetics to use sugar-free Chyavanprash.

“Have herbal tea or decoction of basil, cinnamon, black pepper, dry ginger and raisin once or twice a day. Add jaggery or fresh lemon juice to taste. You can also have golden milk mixed with turmeric,” said the advisory, detailing nasal applications like sesame oil, coconut oil or ghee in both nostrils in the morning and evening. “Oil pulling therapy is also recommended,” says the advisory.

For dry cough or sore throat, the Ministry recommended steam inhalation with fresh mint leaves or caraway seeds. Alternatively, clove powder mixed with natural sugar or honey has been advised.
