Thiruvananthapuram, March 14

In an embarrassment to the Congress in Kerala, Mahila Congress president Lathika Subhash on Sunday resigned from the post after the party refused to give her a ticket for Ettumannur seat and shaved her head in protest at the party office’s front courtyard.

The Congress released its list of candidates for the Kerala Assembly elections on Sunday.

Subhash, who met reporters at the party headquarters Indira Bhavan here after the party chief Mullappally Ramachandran announced the candidates’ list at New Delhi said it was short of women candidates.

It may be for the first time that any leader in any political party in Kerala had taken such a step to register their protest against the party leadership for denying poll ticket.

Kerala is scheduled to vote for their 140-seat assembly in a single phase on April 6. Votes will be counted on May 2. — PTI
