New Delhi, February 26

Congress leaders will march to Rashtrapati Bhawan with a memorandum to express concern over the escalating violence in Delhi which has claimed 20 lives.

The decision was taken at a Congress Working Committee meeting chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi.

The CWC also adopted a resolution condemning the violence and demanding early restoration of order in the capital city which is reeling under brutal riots with mobs from different communities clashing and torching vehicles, shops and houses besides killing people.

The CWC noted with concern that the government had failed to prevent the violence and decided to seek President’s intervention.

CWC members and party office-bearers are expected to march to Rashtrapati Bhavan shortly to petition the President for his orders to stop the violence.

Anti- and pro-CAA demonstrations have been raging on Delhi streets since Sunday. The situation has worsened with several parts under shoot-on-sight orders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval took stock of the situation. PM Narendra Modi has sought a detailed briefing on the Delhi crisis.

Rahul Gandhi did not attend the CWC meeting as he is abroad.

All other top party leaders, including former PM Manmohan Singh, attended the meeting.
