New Delhi, August 8

The Ministry of Defence has announced that DefExpo-2022 will be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from October 18 to 22. It is conducted biennially and this is its 12th edition. It was originally scheduled from March 10 to 14, but had to be postponed following the Russia-Ukraine war that started in February-end.

India did not want to be hosting an event of this scale when the US-led grouping was opposing Russia, India’s long standing ally. The US and Russia both have deep interest in the weapons equipment market in India, which is scheduled to spend $18 billion this fiscal on acquisitions.

The expo will be for land, naval and homeland security systems. It will witness three business days, followed by two public days. Live demonstrations showcasing the equipment and skill set of the armed forces, defence public sector undertakings and industry will be held on all five days on the Sabarmati Riverfront.
