New Delhi, October 23

India’s Covid graph continues to decline with the active cases falling below seven lakh for the first time after two months, 63 days to be precise.

The virus caseload rose to 77,61,312 today with active cases settling at 6,95,509, merely 8.96% of the total cases. Recoveries surpassed 69 lakh as cases remained below 60,000 for the fifth day. India reported 54,366 cases in 24 hours against 73,979 fresh recoveries.

Meanwhile, the DCGI has approved the ICMR-Bharat Biotech's Covaxin candidate for phase 3 human trial, considered conclusive for establishing vaccine’s efficacy and safety. The Central Government is making a national Covid immunisation plan under which it will directly procure vaccines for states. Priority groups, such as health workers and those with co-morbidities, will get vaccine for free.
