Corps Commander-level meet likely on Oct 12

India and China will hold yet another round of Lt General-level talks to take forward the “positives” of the last meeting, which was held on September 21.

This will be the 7th round of talks at this level since June 6 and is likely to be held on October 12. The talks are slated just three days before the next Corps Commander Lt Gen PGK Menon takes over from Lt Gen Harinder Singh.

Sources said the two officers had attended the last meeting together and it was possible that both could again go together for the talks. Lt Gen Menon has been appointed Commander of the Leh-based 14 Crops. After the September 21 meeting, India and China showed first signs of resolving the military standoff along the LAC.

The two sides had agreed “to stop sending more troops to the frontline, refrain from unilaterally changing the situation on the ground, and avoid taking any action that may complicate the situation”.

The two sides had also agreed to hold the 7th round of Corps Commander-level meeting as soon as possible and also take practical measures to properly solve problems on ground, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border area.

Even as the talks are on, India is ramping up its logistics to meet the winter requirement of drinking water and accommodation for troops.
