New Delhi, July 19

Issues related to 5 per cent GST on food items, price rise and falling rupee are set to rock Parliament on the second day of the Monsoon Session on Tuesday.

The session is expected to be a stormy one.

DMK Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva and CPM’s Elamaram Kareem have given a suspension-of-business notice under Rule 267 on the issue of “hike in the price of petroleum products leading to increase in the price of essential commodities and imposition of 5% GST on essential items”.

Congress’s Manickam Tagore and Gourav Gogoi have given an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha on the issue of imposition of 5% GST on some essential items.

The Congress will also protest on the Parliament premises on the issue of GST, price rise and Agnipath scheme near the Gandhi statue.

On Monday, both the Houses could not function amid the demand for discussion on price rise and GST.

The issue related to 5% GST on packed and labelled products, including curd, cheese, honey, flour, mutton and fish products, is proving difficult for the government.

Estranged BJP MP Varun Gandhi also slammed the party-led government on the issue on Monday.
