Congress leader accuses TRS of U-turn on farm laws

In Telangana, Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is the only opposition leader who has been vocal about his opposition to the new farm laws.

While other political parties and politicians have been issuing statements and giving a call for Telangana bandh, Vikramarka is often seen mobilizing the public and organizing a protest against the laws.

Vikramarka has been holding meetings to make the farmers aware of the reason behind the protests outside New Delhi.

In a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Thursday, he accused the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party of taking a U-turn on the issue after calling for a state bandh on December 6 last year. The letter has questioned him as to why the state government has not passed legislation against the farm laws when five non-BJP ruled states had already done so.

Requesting the summoning of a special Vidhan Sabha session to bring in legislation against the national farm bill, Vikramarka cautioned KCR that his party would lose the support of the farmers in case he did not do so. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said, had already collected signatures of 2 crore people against the three farm bills.

In November 2020, Vikramarka had organized a mega tractor rally at Khammam, involving scores of farmers, to protest against union government.

In December 2020, Vikramarka held a protest (Raytu Kavatu) against the new farm bills and raised voice against KCR.

Recently, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also organized a relay fast at Indira Park in Hyderabad to “expose KCR who had taken U-turn on New farm bills
