Congress announces first list of 54 candidates for Delhi Assembly polls

New Delhi, January 18

The Congress on Saturday evening announced its first list of 54 candidates for the February 8 Delhi Assembly elections, fielding former Union minister Krishna Tirath from Patel Nagar reserved segment.

Poonam Azad, the wife of former BJP leader Kirti Azad, will contest from Sangam Vihar.

Former AAP leader Alka Lamba, who switched over to the Congress, has been fielded from Chandni Chowk constituency, while former Delhi unit chief of Congress Arvinder Singh Lovely will contest from Gandhinagar.

Among former Delhi ministers the party fielded today are Ashok Walia from Krishna Nagar, Tarwinder Marwah from Jangpura, Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran.

Delhi Congress working presidents Rajesh Lilothia and Devendra Yadav have been fielded from Mongolpuri and Badli, respectively.

The Congress did not name anyone opposite AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who will defend the New Delhi seat.

The Congress had not opened its account in the 2015 Delhi Assembly polls but improved its performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections finishing second in vote share behind the BJP.
