New Delhi, February 19

A day after the high-powered committee chaired by PM Narendra Modi cleared the appointment of Sanjay Kothari as the next Chief Vigilance Commissioner, the Congress demanded the scrapping of the selection process calling it “illegal and unconstitutional”.

The Congress said “all options were open” should the government not accede to its demand of scrapping the CVC’s appointment and ordering a fresh selection.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari, at a press conference on the issue today, and said Kothari, secretary to President Ram Nath Kovind, whose name was cleared as CVC yesterday was not among candidates the selection committee had either forwarded to the PM-chaired committee for final approval or considered beyond the 38 candidates who applied for the post. — TNS
