Cases at admission stage to be heard virtually, says SC

New Delhi, February 4

Amid lawyers’ protest for resumption of physical hearing, the SC on Thursday indicated that it would go for “hybrid mode” in which cases at the admission stage would be heard virtually and physical hearing would take place thereafter.

No to migration from unrecognised college

Migration of an MBBS student from an unrecognised medical college to a recognised one is impermissible, the SC has ruled. A Bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said migration of an MBBS student was permissible only if both medical colleges were recognised by the central government.

Maintaining that the “hybrid mode” of hearing is beneficial for lawyers and litigants, a Bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said people have to travel long distances to appear in a physical hearing only to see their cases dismissed.

Justice Kaul said, “The dual method of hearing eases access to justice. Success rate at admission stage is 20 per cent.” His comment came during hearing on a petition filed by Facebook India chief Ajit Mohan challenging the summons issued to him by Delhi Assembly’s Peace and Harmony Committee with regard to Delhi riots. — TNS
