Army doctor tests positive for coronavirus in Kolkata

Has no recent foreign travel history, but visited Delhi recently

In an ominous development, the first case of a doctor working in a reputed army hospital contracting the dreaded novel coronavirus came to light in Kolkata on Sunday where a doctor working in the city-based Command Hospital – run by the Army’s Eastern Command – tested positive for the infection.

Wing Commander Mandeep Singh Hooda, deployed here as the Chief Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Defence, confirmed the development.

In a WhatsApp message, the CPRO said, “One personnel has showed symptoms of Covid-19. The patient has been isolated and all the guidelines and protocol advised by various agencies are being followed. We have been verbally informed by the lab that the patient has tested positive for Covid-19.”

The infected person has no recent foreign travel history. However, he had visited Delhi recently, a source said.
