8 super-clean beaches get int’l Blue Flag tag

For the first time, all eight beaches recommended by any country had been given the prestigious Blue Flag certification, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today said, calling it a “proud moment for India”.

“All eight beaches recommended by the government get International Blue Flag Certification,” he said. The eight beaches are Shivrajpur (Dwarka-Gujarat), Ghoghla (Diu), Kasarkod and Padubidri (Karnataka), Kappad (Kerala), Rushikonda (AP), Golden Beach (Odisha) and Radhanagar (A&N Islands). “An outstanding feat, as no Blue Flag nation has ever been awarded for eight beaches in a single attempt,” he said.

The Blue Flag certification is a highly recognised eco-label in which a beach has to meet 33 criteria fixed by the Foundation for Environment Education, Denmark.

Blue Flag beaches are considered the cleanest. They have to meet a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria.
