Hyderabad, March 31

Among those who attended a religious prayer meeting at Delhi’s Markaz Nizamuddin from March 13 to 15, six persons from Telangana have reportedly died.

Two of the deceased breathed their last at Gandhi Hospital, one each at Apollo, Global Hospital, Nizamabad and Gadwal. Telangana Chief Minister’s Office has issued an appeal to all those who visited Nizamuddin during the said period to inform the government about their visit.

In an appeal on behalf of the Chief Minister, it has been said special teams under the collectors have been constituted to identify the persons who came in contact with the deceased. Some of them have already been shifted to hospitals for screening purpose.

“Since many participants who took part in Markaz prayers were inflicted with coronavirus, all others should inform the officials concerned so that they can be tested and treated,” an official said.

The government has also requested that if anyone has any information about the whereabouts of those who went to Nizamudin, then they should alert the government and the Medical and Health Department of Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh has recorded 17 new cases of Covid, all of whom are reportedly those who had either attended the prayer meet or had a contact history with those who had attended the prayer meet.

Chief Minister YSR Jagan Reddy has instructed officials to identify the people who had visited Nizamudin during the said period and shift them to quarantine centres in case they showed any symptom.

Bengal tracks down Jamaat participants

Kolkata: West Bengal Government has swung into action to identify all those from the state who attended the Tablighi Jamaat meet. “All those from WB who have participated in this event are being identified and will be immediately tested for Covid,” West Bengal Home Secretary Alapan Banerjee said. It is not clear how many people from West Bengal, which has a strong Muslim population, had taken part in the event organised by the ultra-orthodox Muslim sect. One source gave a figure of 73 but this is almost certainly a hugely conservative estimate. tns
